From the Publisher
Be inspired by nature and explore innovative and dynamic ways to bring vibrancy and texture to your creative watercolour works of art.

In this reissue of her best-selling book Dynamic Watercolours, Jane demonstrates an effective and vibrant use of a huge range of exciting ways of working, including the use of crackle paste, modelling pastes, metallic leaf, gilding flakes, print and much more.

Inspired by nature on every page and showcasing 75 inspirational finished paintings, this book will excite and inspire watercolour artists of all abilities to experiment and approach their painting in a whole new way.
Includes over 35 techniques clearly explained and illustrated, and four step-by-step projects showing you how to incorporate the techniques into your paintings

Using a tissue paper base
Once a tissue paper surface has been prepared and left to dry, watercolour can be applied in the same way as if using a normal piece of paper. The wet paint will naturally run into the crevices and recesses and produce some stunning effects.

Adding gilding flakes to specific areas
Like metal leaf, gilding flakes need to be secured to the surface using gilding paste. After applying the metal leaf adhesive to an area of a piece of work, I sprinkle them out of the packet and let them fall on the paper in a haphazard way, creating an interesting, looser effect than that achieved by using leaf.

Stamping
A really exciting technique, which creates a wonderful surface to work on, is stamping or printing into the surface of watercolour ground, both smooth and coarse.

Using inks
You can use ink with a brush, much like paint. Ink is fluid enough to paint with straight away; there is no need to water it down or prepare it. The pigment is a lot stronger, and it is permanent, so bear this in mind.

Poppyfield
When I saw a photograph of a lovely, golden field of corn interspersed with the bright red poppies, I knew I had to paint it. I naturally thought of gold leaf as a base, hoping the gold would shine through here and there.

Wild Flowers in the Wood
Catching a glimpse of sunlight highlighting these textured tree trunks gave me the idea of how to try and emulate the three-dimensional effect I witnessed.

Magical Woodland
The warm, cheerful, bright, sunny colours of summer inspired me to paint this uplifting woodland scene.

Beach Scene
Using a chunky canvas wooden panel and mainly coarse watercolour ground, and incorporating crackle paste towards the foreground, forms an interesting textured base upon which to paint this seascape.
